The presentation by Ricky Lee Allen was interesting. He made some really good points that
seemed very viable, but he was very broad about them. His presentation got me thinking, so that evening I went home
and did some research. His points about the poverty level was what I wanted to know more about. According to Dr.
Allen racial poverty is due to "white privilege", but accoring to statistics it is due to "internal, regional and external
geo-politics, various international economic factors and more". "White privilege" may fall under the "more" catagory
but it is not realistic to play it off as the only reason for high poverty levels around the world. A great website
to find more info. is
www.globalissues.com. A question I have is, how people can honestly feel "guilty" for things that their ancestors did? Maybe
I'm insesitive, but I don't feel guilty for things that I had nor have any control over whatsoever. Feeling guilty and
feeling bad for the travesty of others are two completely different things. I think that "guilt" is the wrong term for
his discussion. Dr. Allen was a great speaker, I can tell that he has to be just by the content of his lectures.
It is great that we have people like Dr. Allen talking about this controversial subject. Even if you do not
agree with everything that the man says he is good at making you think and that is a wonderful skill.
